hmmm, well....i dunno if Lars or any of the other band members are gonna have time to notice & take part in this discussion, but not so long ago we had a "somewhat" incident right here on the Board and i'll quote you Lars' POV .... maybe , if he's got some time to spare, he'll add some himself cuz as you might pick up from the following, it's a pretty sore spot....
"I think mp3 is cool in general to let people know about what the music is like BEFORE they BUY the CD.
Thats why we are offering MANY songs in faded in and out versions to our fans. I think this is fair !
BUT I cannot allow that we have on our OWN page people HARMING us !
For the moment FULL versions are traded out there, every time 1 record sale is LOST and the record company earns NO money. The result is in the long run that the "official" cd-sales go down and the labels HAVE to drop the weakest bands first, others will follow.
The musicians don't get any money from the label anymore and CANNOT create new music
MP3 - trading simply means the THE FAN IS supporting the KILLING of the creativity of the band he likes the most. Good bands will be weakened or even maybe die !!
Metallica doesn't die because of this BUT bands who have to really hold on to their SMALL Metalfan-circle will feel it first.
The BAD thing is, that obvioulsy the mp3-traders eiher are ignorant, not aware of the fact, or numb, otherwise these people would not come to the Bands page asking & offering at our OWN forum.
I dont want to make a big thing out of it there, but it's just NOT right !"
So far Lars' opinion on music piracy....i think he made himself pretty clear no ? |

Music piracy sucks at all...
If we are fans we are supposed to support and help our favourite band then...
And which thing should we do first?
BUY THE OFFICIAL ALBUM!
That`s the only way that our favourite band has in order to survive...
Nobody supports metal...
We CAN`T join them...

well thank you swords for i have not the time to scower the threads from before my time.
i did not mean to bring up bad blood, i was simply wondering what they thought.
i must admit the first album i downloaded off the net a year or so back but i prefer the sound on the real thing to mp3. now i have encoded a WHOLE lot of music but i don't allow it to be shared with people over the net. i may give one or 2 to people whom i think might like it. but thats about it and they usually buy the album off the net after they hear a few songs. _________________

| yes well, I personally think there's nothing wrong with using all that's provided in a "legal" way... meaning, I too download a song every now & then to check out what it's like, but i've never downloaded an entire album and i dont think that should be possible.....that's the same as putting the cat with the bacon and hope she'll not touch it ya know... |

I always download some songs before buying the album...
I think it's pretty fair...
As long as you like it and buy the album afterwards there's no problem in my opinion...

I think that we have the right to hear first what we want to buy.
But I think that this only happens with new bands.
I mean, Chapter 1, 2 and 3 are exelent, so , i don't have to download songs for the chapter 4 before buy it. I would download the mp3 samples from the website if the album is not in the shop when it is supposed to be, but only to calm my hungry for METAL!!!
PD: I bought chapter 1 and 3, I had to download State of triumph, but only because I was waiting for at leats 3 weeks, for that "Heavy" shop to have it, and the man, said: come next week, we will have it tomorrow, Oh sorry, we have to order it again..... It made me mad and I couldn't wait anymore, so I downloaded it. But don't worry, I will buy it as soon as I see it, promissed. |
